I am a total beginner. I’ve only ever sewn pillows and placemats. I decided to try this top as a challenge to myself, and it turned out perfectly. I am already planning more. I can’t wait to try more of their patterns soon.

I’m a complete beginner with stretch fabrics, though I’m quite used to wovens. This pattern was a huge step into the unknown for me; and it went so well!! I’ve made the top twice in the last three days and it just keeps getting better. For try 1 I just used the XS as is; was a bit tight under the arms. For try number 2, I used the Small with long sleeves and the shirt length, then graded down to XS at the waist and up to Medium at the hips (yeah, wasp waist). The result? The first fitted top I’ve had which actually fits! I also got the add on pack and will try the cross over hood next. I used medium weight jersey, with black for the front and back, and watercolour floral on black for the sleeves and neck band. One thing; I tried adding elastic to the neck. Bad idea, made it pucker a bit.

I too love this pattern. It’s so easy and once I have my size down, it’s a quick sew. I’m excited to order the ‘Add on Pack’. Thank you for such fantastic patterns.

Purchased for a friend, my only issue is the lack of neckband, this pattern assumes you already know how to draft one which isn’t a big deal but I would expect that all the pieces are included. I tried the L first time round (she’s a M) and it was still too small so I have gone to an XL and will try again. I do like the ease of this pattern for cutting and sewing.

Hi- we do include a cut chart, which tells you exactly what size to cut the neckbands. The cut chart will be both on the printed pieces and again in the tutorial on the first few pages. If you need help finding it on this pattern you can email help@patternsforpirates.com and we can look up exactly which pages it is on for you.

My absolute favorite! Dress it up with rayon spandex and a cowl neck from the add on pack, size up and add a hoodie and pockets from the add on pack for a hoodie, use it to big thrift store shirts to make baseball-shirt-type shirts (a fun print on the front and colorblock sleeves), dbp in different lengths for staple shirts, sweater knit sized up with cowl add on, the list goes on! And an easy sew
