This is a PDF sewing pattern and tutorial to teach you how to create these garments. THIS IS NOT A FINISHED PRODUCT.
This classic, tight fit pencil dress can be an everyday dress in a more casual knit, or a real show stopper in the floor length and a structured knit! It is drafted for a more stable knit like ponte roma, stretch velvet, stretch lace, liverpool, but you can also use a more casual double brushed polyester, thicker sweater knit, or a spandex blend french terry.
It has a center seam along the back from a close fit along your curves. Some lengths include a kick pleat for walking ease. You can put in a zipper to make it easier to get on and off or leave it off and wiggle in and out of it 😉 . The traditional set in sleeves and off the shoulder both come with short sleeve, half sleeve, 3/4 sleeve and long sleeve to make sure you can sew it up for all seasons. Lengths include a crop at natural waistline, top at full hip, just above knee, just below knee, midi/calf length and the stunning floor length that has a mermaid flare at the bottom for such a flattering silhouette.
The neckline is a classic boatneck with the option of a high back or a scoop back. The off the shoulder has it’s own glamorous neckline cutting across for a dramatic look.
Whether you’re wearing it for running errands in a more casual knit or pulled out all the stops and do a formal you will feel sexy in this tight fit dress!

From pattern cut to finish, 4 hours. I am in intermediate sewer. The pattern it easy to follow, the photos help a lot. each photo has a single step, so it is easy to finish that part and successfully move to the next step. The results don’t lie- the finished product seems to flatter every body its on. its a hit!

Haven’t sewn it up yet, just bought it, and I was delighted to discover a copy shop version included for the price! Hurray for the option of printing and taping together only a couple of pieces, rather than a multitude! I’m looking forward to making this multiple times, both straight from the pattern and with modifications (addition of a hood, changes to sleeve shape, etc).

This is an amazing pattern in every way- clear and thorough instructions, easy to assemble pages (including page numbers for each piece so you can print only what you need). When I did get a little confused with one of the steps I had a prompt and friendly email response 🙂
I usually go for full skirted styles but decided to break out of my comfort zone with this. I made the high boat neck/scoop back option. I followed the size chart and the fit was perfect. The built in swayback adjustment is just brilliant. My measurements span 3 different sizes so I just graded between, which is very easy to do thanks to the clear markings on the pattern.
Even if you are normally wary of close fitting dresses you should really give this wonderful pattern a try! I plan on mashing the body of this one with the Sweetheart skirt for those days when I feel like leaving the tummy control pants at home 🙂
Thanks so much P4P, my first of your patterns but definitely not the last!
